ABOUT US
HOPE FOR THE VULNERABLE PROJECT (HOVA)
HOVA is an indigenous Christian based organization formed by a heartfelt preacher named Pr. Lawrence Savio Kizito in 2017 under Revival Christian Ministries Africa. What started out small, has developed into a big ministry encompassing various projects. The thought to start this ministry, was after the founder KIZITO Lawrence, went through the agony growing a parentless child after all his parents summed to HIV/AIDS in 1997 leaving him at only the age of 09. He then meandered around the village for support up to the streets of Kampala the Uganda capital city. Joined by fell kids, they could thrive on left overs thrown in waste bins. Later Kizito remembered his father’s house and moved back to the village with three fellow homeless young boys and started staying in the named house. Immediately Kizito realized God’s calling of doing his work by taking care of both motherless and fatherless kids. It was at this moment when he started moving around his village gathering all homeless kids and would barely wish to find any child facing what he went through as a child. He had been distributed by the plight of many children in his community of Kitavujja, he had been neglected, abandoned, and had nowhere to go for help. So he created a space in their home to share with the other parentless children, Lawrence could hardly bare it seeing children suffer from the consequences of losing their parents. This is where he stepped out in faith to advocate for the needs of vulnerable children and families in the above community. He really had nothing but only this small house left by his parents this is when he started with five orphans abandoned by guardians. We are really blessed that what started out a small home, God has used it to restore hope to hundreds of hopeless children and families, create opportunities to the many vulnerable youth and adolescents and the very elderly. Since its inception, HOVA has under gone numerous transformation, including increased number of beneficiaries where we now have a total of 35 orphaned and abandoned children housed in our home, 65 vulnerable children supported from their homes, 32 vulnerable girls supported for vocational skills and 15 elders being supported. Our focus is extending the presence of God to the hopeless.
OBJECTIVES:
- To improve the quality of life of children and households in needy conditions as benchmark for evangelism, through education support, medical support etc.
-To increase access to basic necessities like food, clothing, treatment, shelter and clean and safe drinking water extra.
-To instill evangelism and priesthood attitudes in children and households in the bid to extend this ministry to the far ends of the world.
- To provide psycho-social support interventions to children and households whose rights have been violated especially the girl child.
- To work with communities to end issues of gender based violence and promote environmental protection activities.
- To demonstrate the need for households and children to have income generating activities through mentorships and on site trainings.
- To promote food security avenues in families so as to reduce hunger .
-To demonstrate the need for children and families to respond to concerns of climatic change through environmental protection activities.
-To identify and help to grow talents in children.
CHALLENGES
> Inadequate space, as we talk now, our home has 35 children all housed in a two roomed building. This means therefore means we cannot put beds their but instead put mattresses on the ground to create space for all of them. However, this is also attributed to the ever increasing numbers of children.
> Inadequate basic necessities like food and clothes as a ministry we have no land and there cannot grow our own food and at times kids hardly eat anything. For example on a weekly basis, we have to spend $100 on food only.
> Inability to pay for medical bills; most times kids follow sick and bills are so high for us to afford. For example just of recent we lost an 8year old girl by the names of cissy out of a heart inflammatory disease because we could not pay $ 1500 for her surgery.
> Ever increasing number of children. This is really a challenge that even affects our planning. Many children were mostly abandoned during the Covid-19 lockdown and joined our home.
> Inaccessibility to safe drinking water. In our community accessing water, is a big problem, our children have to move more than 6km to access water. A month ago we received a case of 12year girl who the ministry supports from her home raped while they went to collect water. Kids keep suffering from numerous water borne diseases.
> Lack of enough matrasses, blankets and other bedding requirements.
> Lack of transport; many times we are called to address children issues but we hardly reach their in time because we have to go on foot.
> Irresponsive legal structures to address children issues. Many times children are abused and we struggle taking them for legal redress but children fail to access justice.
> Lack of a camera, laptop and a good smart phone for record keeping and sharing our interventions and accountabilities with brothers and sisters from the diaspora.
> Inability to support the education of all identified children and facilitating vocational skills trainings for the out of schools for example on average a child will need up to $200 to stay in school with a uniform and other requirements.
>Very old and physically unable persons who really need a lot of attention like medical support.
>We are also challenged by the issue of children abandoned by both parents and perpetrators of sexual violence in fear of responsibilities. Pregnant young girls are so susceptible to numerous diseases and psychological issues that call for extra care and love. In Uganda a child is cursed and denied parental responsibility just for getting pregnant while still in the hands of her parents.
